FERPA & Support Requests
When you contact support — through the in-dashboard support button, by email, or by submitting a ticket — you may need to describe a situation involving a student. This page explains how to do that without sharing information that should stay private.
The core rule
Section titled “The core rule”Support does not need — and should not receive — identifying information about individual students. You can describe almost any situation with enough context for support to help you, using only:
- The student’s role in the class (e.g., “one of my 10th-grade students”)
- The dashboard page or feature involved
- A general description of the situation (e.g., “a student’s profile shows no NatureTypes even though their MN assessment is marked complete”)
You do not need to share:
- Full student name
- Student ID number
- Date of birth
- GPA or academic records
- Discipline history
- Family situation
- Any sensitive personal detail
Caution: If you do include student-identifying details in a support message, support staff will handle the request but will not reference those details in their reply. Getting in the habit of using initials or general descriptions is the simplest approach.
FERPA and the dashboard
Section titled “FERPA and the dashboard”The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) governs how educational records are handled. Student profile data in the MN School Dashboard — Nature scores, Intelligence scores, NatureTypes, flags, and counselor notes — constitutes an educational record under FERPA.
Multiple Natures is a school official under FERPA, acting in a legitimate educational interest on behalf of your school. The data processing relationship is governed by a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) between your school or district and Multiple Natures International, LLC.
If your district legal team or a parent asks about the data relationship, refer them to your school administrator. Administrators can request a copy of the DPA from support@multiplenatures.com.
What Multiple Natures does with student data
Section titled “What Multiple Natures does with student data”- Student profile data is used only to display information to authorized staff at the student’s school
- Data is not shared with third parties for commercial purposes
- Data is not used to train AI models
- Support staff access student data only when necessary to resolve a reported issue, and only with school authorization
For the complete data handling policy, see Data Handling.
